The Masterpiece by Javan

The Masterpiece by Javan

We are born into the world like a blank canvas and each person that crosses our path takes up the brush and makes his mark upon our surface - So it is that we develop - But we must realize there comes a day that we must take up the brush and finish the work. For only we can determine if we are to be just another painting or a Masterpiece.

Patchwork Times August Challenge

August was tough this year and, thankfully, over.
We had extreme heat, an earthquake, the stomach flu and Hurricane Irene.
The flu lasted too long and is finally leaving as did the hurricane and earthquake.
This morning our temperature is a wonderful 58 degrees to start - Autumn is coming.

Thank you Judy L from Patchwork Times for challenging us and this is the August finish,
which was number seven  ...
I started this in an applique class and thankfully it just needed to be assembled and quilted.
I finished it at 10 pm last night - whew!!!

Deerfield Bluebirds
I also completed a bed runner and it is on the way to the quilter for her wonderful magic.  Thought I would try one of these - looks very promising for keeping the toes warm during a quick nap.  Can't remember the last time we were in a hotel, but they say they are using these now on the beds.

Also, finally made a sewing machine cover and small back pillow for my sewing chair.
Very simple and the piping is a stripe - which I love.

I have something else that I finished but can't show until it reaches it's new owner...
it was a real keeper too.   It has been received and she really, really likes it.

Have I ever mentioned what quilting means to me...
well, my friend Pat Taylor who lives in Wisconsin
said it so eloquently on her blog and I asked permission to use her words.
She agreed, as long as I shared with her what I did with them ...
This is the pillow I sent to her this week.

Now I just have to make me one, don't I.

Enjoy Autumn and Indian Summer and hopefully some cooler weather.
I leave you with this final picture - remember when?

You've gotten some great things done.
I love the snow picture. It was 111 degrees here Sunday. I would love to see snow about now!!! (Actually, it doesn't snow here at all, so I would have to go there to see it!)

August was an eventful month for you.
Your bluebird quilt is beautiful. Love it!!
I also really like the star within a star in your bed runner--yes I have seen these in some hotels lately.
Yikes--I'm not ready to remember the snow, though I am enjoying the cool down.

What a lovely appliqued piece and yet another finish for you!! Have reread your earlier posting about taking classes & agree with you 100%

Thank you for the words of comfort on your earlier visit...I knew you would understand completely the depth of feelings...

Hoping you had no damage from the storms - we watched on our TV from Green Bay this past weekend and my thoughts went to you when hearing how far inland the winds and rain had traveled.

It's too bad that all of us UFO Challenge people couldn't get together to quilt on the 31st of the month, cause it seems like we were all busily working late to finish! Your applique is lovely, and I am coveting your sewing machine cover--I always thought of making one, but never have done it! A cover for keeping the toes warm is a great idea! Congrats on all your finishes!

Brrrr I'm so not ready for snow, but then our summer is much shorter than those in the south.
Your finished projects look great! I esp love your appliqued piece.

Congrats on your finish and on your bed runner. I made one and it is nice but I think I like a big one on the end of my bed.

Wow! You have been busy! I love the applique and the other items. The redwork is beautiful. Thursday with the students in school it was in the upper 80's and high humidity. Today it is currently 58 deg. with a feel of Fall to the air.

I really enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful things that you have made. I love your August UFO!!

Yes, they are using these bed runners a lot in hotels now - I think it is a great idea.

I am so glad that fall is on its way - we are now approaching my favorite seasons! I love the holidays!
